Raising for Fun while Fundraising

Welcome to the MS Poker Web Page. First of all I want to say thank you to all of the sponsors, volunteers, and especially the participants who have made the previous MS Poker tournaments successful. With your help, we've donated over $20,000 to the National MS Society over the past four years!! Your continued generous support gives my family hope that our efforts will eventually lead to a cure to this horrible disease.

Well, we did it. With another successful MS Poker Event (we raised just over $2000 during the 2009 MS Poker Invitational), we’ve now raised more than $20,000 for the National MS Society. Thanks to all my players, volunteers, and donors. As you know, it’s a lot of work to put on one of these events, but the success that we’ve had makes it all worth while.

The 2009 MS Poker Invitational filled up quickly as we had a great showing at the Dogfish Alehouse Kickoff Party/Fund Raiser. And I think the 3pm starting time worked well also. The 2009 MS Poker Invitational kicked off at 3pm, and lasted until 10:30pm. It was fun playing with all those familiar faces (although I guess that I have to play better now ;-). Thanks to our volunteer dealers this year, Sally, Lisa, and Laurie. Thanks to our food runners, Guy, Lee, and Joe. And of course thanks to our great Food Sponsors:

Tournament Highlights and Results

I think that the theme for this year was definitely Lady Luck… The women were out numbered at the start, with only four ladies in the field, but after about five hours of play, all of the ladies remained, as all four (Sandy, Mary, Branca, and Dee) made the final table..(next year - no college football on the big screen ;-)

Table 3

The MS Poker Invitational was definitely an up and down tournament. Table 3 dominated the rebuys early on, and there were a lot of expectations for their success, but by the end, only two Table 3 players reached the final table. Also, for the second MS Poker Event in a row, the first to worst curse hit the MS Poker Invitational, with the 2009 MS Poker Champion, Jack, being the first-out of the MS Poker Invitational (Bill was sympathetic ;-).

Final Table
Final 3

The final table competition was very stiff, with a bunch of first time final table players. Most players were wary of two-time champion Scott Maddock as well as final table usuals, Drew and Bill, however, there was a big sense of relief when Scott finished on the bubble, leaving the three new players tob battle it out for the title. The final three moved chips back and forth, with the small stack using aggression to take the lead multiple times. There was a lot of action, especially pre-flop, and ultimately, Bryan got knocked out on a bad beat…and within a few hands, and with a little bit of Lady Luck, we had our new, and first time female champion. Congrats to our top three finishers:

3rd Place Bryan Christiansen
2nd Place Tim Judkins
